Yuval Moav’s Refusal Declaration

נמצא ב

My name is Yuval Moav and I refuse to be complicit in genocide.

I am not special. Like people all over the world, I see what my country is doing in Gaza and find myself at a loss for words to describe the horror. I call to bring the war criminals to justice. Still, I also understand that it is not the actions of individual people that brought the public of an entire country to be blind and complicit to crimes of extermination. It’s a societal process with deep ideological roots. From the mass expulsion my country was established on, to the genocide in Gaza – Zionism has brought suffering to millions. The ideology’s basic tendencies revealed themselves during this period. Thus – I reject Zionism completely.

To my Palestinian brothers and sisters, in my simple act, I want to stand in solidarity with you. I know that every child in Gaza is forced to be a bigger hero than I will ever be. I know that there are kids – younger than me – in Israeli prisons for no fault of their own, whose pain I could never know. I also acknowledge that I do not represent the majority opinion in my society. But in my action, I hope to raise the voice of those of us who are waiting for the day we can build a joint future, build a society based on peace and equality, and not occupation and apartheid.

Despite everything, I still have hope – the days in which Israel can act without restraint are numbered. I know that I’m not alone – that there are people like me all over the world who resist these crimes. I say to everyone who receives this message – keep doing what you can do. Today, more than ever, the Israeli regime relies on a small group of people in positions of power and their friends in the arms Industry. There’s more of us than them, and justice is with us.

I am entering prison now, but my heart is with the children of Gaza and oppressed people around the world. End the genocide in Gaza. End the occupation.
